A company that has already pioneered a new format for gaming – publishing over 100 games in a book, has achieved another breakthrough. This time the company, ALB Games, has pioneered creating games in an audiobook, where you listen to the rules and the statements or questions on the cards and play.

The games are ideal for party games, where one player reads or plays the copy on a card, and other players answer questions, debate ideas, or perform actions, and in some cases, says that a stated fact is true or false.

This new approach to gaming has the potential to revolutionize the market for party and communication games because it is so much less expensive—only a few dollars for a game in an audiobook and about $10 for the paperback format, compared to $30-40 for a typical game in a box.

How It Works

In ALB’s original games in a paperback book, players can print out and cut apart cards, and sometimes boards and tokens, from digital files, or they can cut the pages directly out of the physical book, and can additionally put the cards in card sleeves.

In the audiobook, players take turns playing the copy on the cards on an Audible App or recording device.

Then, the other players respond with their comments or actions. The games feature all kinds of topics, from getting advice and relationships to games on scams, history, and travel destinations around the world. Many games feature everyday situations like dealing with a car accident, games about nature and the environment, and current politics.

Available Audio Games

So far ALB Games has selected 30 games from its 100 games collection to be turned into audiobooks. The seven currently available games feature the popular topics of gossip, pet peeves, the mysteries of aliens on the Nevada desert, and achieving success, goals, and money. Among these games are The Gossip Game: The Game of Creating and Sharing Gossip; Real or Fake: Area 51 and the Aliens: A Game about Research, Events, and Conspiracies in the Nevada Desert; and The Keys to Success Game: A Game of Questions about Gaining Success.

Besides creating these new ways to play games, ALB games is also exploring still other ways to make the games available, such as selling to special organizations and businesses interested in the topic, such as cruise lines for travel games and business organizations for games about success.

What’s Next?

And for its next act, the company is looking for still other formats for creating games. One possibility being explored is combing games with interactive immersive AI art and music for a unique theatrical and musical experience
